In one sentence: your data stays on your iPhone and in your iCloud. We don't see it, don't sell it and don't use it for ads.
This policy explains, in plain language, what data Meu Potinho uses, where it's kept and how you can delete all of it, under Brazil's General Data Protection Law (Law No. 13,709/2018, LGPD) and the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
1. Who is responsible
The person responsible for your data (the controller) is Roger Albino, an individual based in Brazil. For any privacy matter, email [email protected]. As a small-scale processing agent, we have not appointed a data protection officer (Brazil's ANPD Resolution CD/ANPD No. 2/2022): this email is the channel for any request.
2. What data the app uses
| Data | Where it's kept | Can the developer see it? |
|---|---|---|
| Your home: places, products, batches, expiration dates, lists, history and categories | On your iPhone and in your iCloud. The app has no server | No |
| Your name ("What people call you") | On your iPhone and in iCloud. It shows in the history ("who used, who stored") to people in the same home | No |
| Product photos (Premium) | Shrunk to a thumbnail on your iPhone and stored with the home in iCloud | No |
| Shared home | People you invite see the home's data. The invite comes from iCloud: Apple shows participants the name or email of the Apple Account, depending on iCloud settings | No |
| Camera | Reads the barcode on the iPhone itself. It only saves an image when you take a photo of a product | No |
| Barcode | Sent to Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts, Open Pet Food Facts and Open Products Facts to suggest a name and brand. Only the code leaves your iPhone; as with any internet request, the database receives your IP address | No |
| Product name, brand and tags; your household's categories and locations | Used by Apple's on-device artificial intelligence (Apple Intelligence) to suggest the category and location of a new product. Only on iPhones with Apple Intelligence turned on. They never leave the iPhone | No |
| Expiry alerts | Scheduled on the iPhone itself. Alert preferences stay in your private iCloud, outside the home | No |
| Premium subscription | Paid for and managed by Apple. The app only knows whether the subscription is active and saves in the home until when it's valid | No payment data |
| Apple Watch | Same data and same iCloud as the iPhone | No |
| Email to support | In the provider's mailbox (Gmail, by Google), only if you write | Yes: your email address and what you write |
| Usage analytics, ads and tracking | None. The app has none of these | — |
3. What stays on your iPhone and in your iCloud
Everything you add stays on your iPhone and in your iCloud: your home, products, expiration dates, lists, history, your name and photos. iCloud belongs to Apple and is protected by your Apple Account. Meu Potinho has no server of its own, and the developer has no access to this data.
4. Shared home
When you invite someone to your home, they see everything in it, including your name in the history. The invite and the list of participants are handled by iCloud.
To leave a home, go to Home › your avatar › Leave this home. If the home is yours, Stop sharing removes everyone from it.
5. What leaves your device
When you scan a product, the app sends only the barcode to the open databases Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts, Open Pet Food Facts and Open Products Facts to suggest the name and brand. No name, email or device identifier goes with it. As with any internet request, the database receives your IP address.
These databases are open, under the ODbL license, and the app shows the credit "Data: Open Food Facts" (or the name of the database used).
6. Suggestions from the iPhone's artificial intelligence
On iPhones with Apple Intelligence, the app uses Apple's artificial intelligence on the device itself to suggest the category and location of a new product. The product name, brand and the names of your household's categories and locations are used only at that moment and never leave the iPhone: not to Apple, not to us. Without Apple Intelligence, the app uses fixed rules only. You always check the suggestion before saving.
7. When you email support
If you send us an email, we receive your email address, your name (if it shows in the email) and what you write. The mailbox is on Gmail, by Google. We use it only to reply, and we keep the conversation only while it's useful for helping you. You can ask us to delete it at any time.
8. Camera and photos
The camera is used to read barcodes and, if you want, to take a photo of a product. Barcode reading happens on the iPhone, and no image is saved.
To choose a photo from your library, the app uses iOS's own picker: it only receives the photo you choose, with no access to the others.
9. Alerts
Expiry alerts are local notifications, scheduled on your iPhone. To turn them off, go to Settings › Notifications › Meu Potinho.
10. Subscription
Premium is billed by Apple, which keeps your payment details. The app only learns whether the subscription is active. To cancel, go to Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions.
11. Legal bases
- For the app to work (home, syncing, alerts and barcode suggestions): performance of a contract, that is, providing the app you chose to use (LGPD, art. 7, V; GDPR, art. 6(1)(b)).
- Camera, photos and notifications: your consent, given through iOS permissions, which you can withdraw at any time in iPhone Settings (LGPD, art. 7, I; GDPR, art. 6(1)(a)).
- Support emails: our legitimate interest in answering what you asked (LGPD, art. 7, IX; GDPR, art. 6(1)(f)).
- Google Analytics on the website: your consent, given in the cookie notice, which you can withdraw at any time through the “Cookies” link in the footer (LGPD, art. 7, I; GDPR, art. 6(1)(a)).
12. Data outside Brazil
Some services used by the app and the website are outside Brazil: iCloud (Apple), the Open Food Facts databases (France), Cloudflare and Gmail (Google). These transfers follow chapter V of the LGPD and, in the European Union, chapter V of the GDPR.
13. What we don't do
- No usage analytics in the app.
- No ads.
- No tracking you across other apps and websites.
- No selling or lending your data.
14. How long and how to delete
Your data stays for as long as you want.
- Home › your avatar › Delete all data deletes everything from your iPhone and from iCloud. In someone else's home, it only removes you from it.
- Deleting the app removes the data from your iPhone. Data in iCloud can be deleted in Settings › [your name] › iCloud.
- If you sign out of iCloud, the app asks whether to keep or delete the data on this iPhone.
15. Your rights
Under the LGPD (art. 18) and the GDPR, you can ask, free of charge, for:
- confirmation that we process your data, and access to it;
- correction of incomplete or wrong data;
- deletion, anonymization or blocking;
- portability, in a common format;
- information about who the data is shared with;
- withdrawal of consent;
- objection to and restriction of processing, under the GDPR.
Since almost all data stays on your iPhone and in your iCloud, you can handle most of these requests directly in the app. For anything else, email [email protected]. You can also file a complaint with Brazil's National Data Protection Authority (ANPD) or, in the European Union, with your country's data protection authority.
16. This website and cookies
The meupotinho.com website shows no ads, and the website's server keeps no access logs. It is delivered through Cloudflare, which receives visitors' IP addresses to deliver the pages and protect the site from attacks, under Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Google Analytics, only if you accept. On your first visit, we ask whether we can use Google Analytics to count visits. If you accept, it stores the _ga and _ga_* cookies, which last up to 2 years, and sends Google the pages you visit, where you came from, your device and browser type and your approximate location. Google Analytics does not store your IP address, Google's advertising signals are turned off and the data is kept for 14 months. Google is based in the US and handles this data under Google's privacy policy and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
If you decline, none of this is loaded. To change your mind, use the Cookies link in the footer: if you decline, the Google Analytics cookies are deleted. Your choice is saved only in this browser. Other than that, the website uses no cookies.
17. Children
Meu Potinho is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from children.
18. Changes to this policy
The date at the top shows the current version. If something important changes, we'll say so on this page and, if what the app collects changes, in the app too.
19. Contact
Privacy questions: [email protected]. Anything else: Support.
